1989 Jeep Wrangler Head Gasket

I just aquired an '89 Wrangler from a buddy. He tells me the thing will overheat after about 20 mins, he has seen the "yoo-hoo"looking gunk, and hes popping freeze plugs and overheating. Will fixing the haed gasket do the trick or is there more I should look for? I will do the work myself.

Hi there,

You will have to start with the head, and fully o/haul the cooling system. There is no easy way to check the block for a crack, short of ultra sound or X-ray inspection. So you have to think about how far you go? Do the head & cooling system and hope that the block is ok.
