1993 Jeep Wagoneer engine surges

Engine surges while driving. More noticable in the 10-15 mph range but also there at higher speeds. Fuel economy has dropped dramatically. Still has power under acceleration.

Do you have a check engine light and when was the last major tune-up?

Check the fuel pressure/throttle position and the MAP sensors.

No check engine light. As far as the last tune up i'm not sure. Not my jeep and i'm trying to help a friend. He is very good with engines and keeps his vehicles in top shape. We've discussed some of the possible problems, but he was hoping someone that may have experienced this problem might know where to look before spending extra money on sensors. Thanks for the info. I will let him know whats been discussed so far.
