The sunroof on my 2000 Grand Cherokee stopped working recently. It will still tilt and close but will no longer slide the glass back. When I try to open the sunroof I can hear the motor running but nothing happens. I was told two different things and I'm not sure what to believe. First, I was told something must have gotten stuck in the track. Then I was told the wire attached to the glass and motor had snapped. The second sounds more believable since I can still hear the motor moving up and down the track. What do you think the problem is and do you know if it is a difficult fix? Any help would be great. Thanks!

When you push the switch and hear the motor run do you hear anything that sounds like a crunching or grinding?

I do auto glass for a living and I cant remember ever having done a sunroof on you type of vehicle but what im thinking is the problem is probably the regulator (the part that moves the glass) has probably broke.
Sunroofs are very complicated to work on id find a good glass shop. A good shop shouldnt charge anything to look at it and tell you what the problem is for sure.
But be prepared to pay if you want it working like it should these types of repairs can sometimes cost quite a bit
