i bought a jeep when i got back from deployment in november. the previous owner put a engine form a 95' cherokee, new trans, and large gas tank. everything runs fine but the gas gauge. when i got it i filled it up and ran out at half way so i used that as my empty line. that worked for a while. for the last month or so now i get half way and im any where from half to two-thirds full. its just getting annoying now and i would like to fix the problem myself rather than take it some where. i would be greatful for any help.

With the previous owner putting in a larger fuel tank , I would start with checking the connections going to the tank. make sure there is a good ground. The sending unit is probably from the old tank. You can drop the tank and check the float. if the bulb has fuel in it then that would be the cause of the problem. what bothers me is that in the beginning the tank read 1/2 and you were empty and now when showing 1/2 you are about 3/4, so I don't think the float has a leak but that the guage is sticking.
