My 95 jeep grand cherokee 4.0 gasoline 135,000 miles. starts fine and in about 3 min. begins to idle roughly and choke out. It backfires out the carb as well. I have recently replaced fuel filter, crankshaft pos. sensor, coil, dis. cap and rotor, plugs and wires. it does get fuel pressure. I've tested it at the fuel injectors by pushing in on the port. i'm out of ideas please help if you can.

The 4.0 motors are common to have intake valves get carboned up and allowing leaks. (you don't have a carb, it's fuel injected). Find an independent garage to perform a professional fuel injection service or contact a castle chemical rep to buy rail power fuel injector cleaner and the equipment to use it; and run a couple of cans through it. After running it through, take it up to 4000 rpm in a lower gear for a short bit to help break up the carbon.

I have a 94 jeep and had the same problem. I ended up replacing the idle intake control valve. Cost 70.00 for the part. Idles perfect now.

Your Jeep has a carb? Could be your Idle Air Control Valve and I believe it's in the throttle body. Could clean it with carb cleaner though.

If your 95 cherokee has a carb, Take it to a mechanic.
Otherwise do like jdh said. It will wwork for a while depending on how bad it's carbed up.
