Hi, I have been having this problem since the last year. Whenever I hit the brake, my front brakes make this high pitched noise. (When I tried to stop the car using the emergency brake, it doesn't make that noise so that I am assuming front brakes are the on that make noise) It makes noise more often during summer than spring or fall when it rains. I took it to the shop the other day and they told me that my brakes are fine, and I should just live with this noise until my brakes are worn out. I was so desperate to fix this problem and I almost started thinking that I should take my car to the dealer: I have been taking my car to this shop for 3 yrs now so that I trust their judgment, but I keep thinking that how am I going to drive while hearing this irritating noise especially when summer is near. Please let me know if theres anything I can do.

If the shims are missing it will squeal, these are thin metal plates that go on the back of the pads to change the pitch beyond human hearing. Can also try anti sieze compound on the back of the pads.

Dear merlin2021,

Thanks for the reply. I feel shame to say this, but I do not have much a knowledge about the car, and I was wondering if you could give more details. About what you said, is there anyway I can check whether or not shims are missing at home? In addition, how do you apply anti sieze compound on the pad?

Thanks in advance.

The anti-sieze compound is applied to the steel back of the pad where it will contact the caliper. The shims are the same shape as the pads and is applied the same way!
