Electrical problem
2000 Jeep Cherokee 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 165k miles

My Jeep won't start. When the key is turned I get a single click. No dimming of lights when attempted. Lights and windows work fine. Charged and attempted jumping with no resolution, just still a single click. All battery connections seem fine. Whacked the starter with a rubber mallet, just clicks still. Removed starter and took down to local auto supply and they bench tested and said starter was fine. Is there a way that the solenoid is bad but the starter still tested fine? I think on my model the solenoid is attached to the starter motor. This is probably a dumb question but is there another solenoid somewhere and if so, how do I test if this is the problem?

There is only one. I need you to test something. Have a helper turn the key to the start position while you check for 12 volts to the smaller wire to the starter. If you have the power, I would suspect the starter, but if there is not 12 volts, check the starter relay. It is in the power distribution box under the hood. The cover should identify all relays.

Let me know what you find.
