1999 Jeep Cherokee Rear hatch will not open

1999 Jeep Cherokee V8 78500 miles

You can hear it make noise but the hatch and window will not open. It has been do this spartically lately and now it just won't open.

I've had the same problem with my 99 Cherokee. Try pushing in (as to close the hatch) while you operate the handle. Give it a good push. Once you get it open squirt some LPS or WD-40 up into the latch. We haven't had any trouble since we did that to ours. Good luck
