Drive Train Axles Bearings problem
1998 Jeep Cherokee 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

I just bought a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the previous owner told me it needed axle work, but they had the front drive shaft removed and it wasn't a problem. I put the drive shaft back on and it makes a rubbing/grinding sound, it almost sounds like its the front diff, I checked the fluid and its full, so I'm not sure what the problem might be because it doesn't seem like it should be the axles because they're spinning even with the drive shaft off. The vehicle has full time 4wheel drive. I'm stumped

Also the brakes are acting kind of funny. They work fine until I am almost to a complete stop then the ABS kicks in even though the brakes are not locking up. Thanks!!!

Suspect the front differential
As for the brakes check for codes if any fix as needed if not suspect wheel bearing or check axle ABS ring

There is something I don't know it's name in English exactly, but it sounds like Axle clutches. They are to be changed on the rear ax. from the right side ONLY.
I got this sound before and was solved by replacing those clutches.

For the sudden funny brakes behavior, I suggest to check the front Brake Pads fitting place on the caliper(s),if they are loose(due to time age) you will change caliper(s)
Hope this will help.
