HAD BEEN WORKING JUST FINE, THEN WITHIN A FEW BLOCKS IT WORKED ONLY AT HIGHER SPEED AND NOT AT LOW. THEN DIGRESSED QUICKLY TO NO COOLING AIR AT ALL. AC LIGHT IS ON, THERE WERE NO OBVIOUS NOISES. WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED, HOW DO I TROUBLESHOOT, AND ADVISE REPAIR.

Lets start with the compressor.

Is there power supply to the compressor clutch and is it engaging?

Do you have enough freon in the system? Look out for oily stains along AC system such as hoses, pipes and system components if the freon level is low or none.
