My 93 Jeep Cherokee has had trouble starting for a while. At first, it was real intermittent but I could always eventually start it. Then, it seems like I had to pump the gas in order to get it to slugglishly start. Now, however, it cranks and cranks but just won't fire.

There is no spark and after reading many forums I decided to just go ahead and replace the crankshaft position sensor. I haven't put it in yet, but if this fails to get it working. What would my next step be? Ignition coil?

I should also note that the jeep has been sitting for about a year now. But I really want it working before the winter.

Thanks in advance,

Anthony

Engine cranking check for primary voltage at the coil, smaller wire, dark green with orange tracer, should be hot. The crank sensor is one possibility, if the computer isn't grounding the asd relay. Primary voltage to the coil and other circuits, injector/s, come from the asd relay. Any applicable mil codes? Thanks for the donate.

The only code I'm seeing is code 12. Does that help?

Not sure if that helps. It means battery voltage has been lost at some point. Make sure the battery has a full charge and connections are all clean and tight.

Yeah, the battery lost its charge completely a month ago because it's been sitting for a while now. Took a while to recharge it but it's charged now.

Should there be another code if the Crankshaft Position Sensor is bad? I plan on trying my new one tonight.

They don't always set codes when they should. I'd have to check circuits at the asd relay.

Sorry, but I'm pretty new to this stuff. But, how exactly do I check the ASD Relay Circuit?

Start by checking the voltage circuits at the relay. key on, two circuit should be hot. Then check relay ground, controlled by computer.
