1989 Jeep Cherokee 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

I think the fuel pump is going out on my cherokee. Making a whining noise. Is the fuel pump outside or inside the gas tank? Do I have to drop the tank to replace the fuel pump? What is required to replace the fuel pump on this vehicle?

The fuel pump is located in the fuel tank and the tank has to be drop to get at it-

Depressurized the fuel system before you pull the fuel pump -see below
