Transmission problem
1985 Jeep Cherokee 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic alot miles

Hello, in the mornings when I start my jeep it idles fine(actually high idle but thats a diferent matter). But when I put it in any gear (forward reverse or other) and apply the pedal, the engine whirs away and no motion to the wheels, mind you it only lasts for about 5 seconds and the vehicle crawls into motion, then after twenty seconds or so is running as normal.

In the afternoons at lunch or in the evenings I dont have this problem.

I also have the haynes repair manual for this vehicle, is thee a particular section that should interest me. Lol

Sounds like a tranny problem. See scheduled maintenence in your MANUAL.

Have you kept up?

It may be worse. But I suspect you need to do a Filter/ fluid change on your tranny

I have had good luck doing this on friends' cars. Usually the filter was really stopped up, fluid could not get thru fast enough to make things work.

Won't hurt anyway. Should probably have needed it regardless.

That BOOK is a very smart thing to own! I have learned alot from the 25 or so I have.
