2002 Jaguar XJ8 Gearbox default appear on dashboard/engine

I just bought this car and it ran great, but when I drove on the higway it died on me couple of times.
Engine cuts off and goes in a safe mode.
Appear gearbox default and ASC on the dash.
What could be a problem in your opinion.I hope it's not a transmission.I don't have the money !!!!
Please advise as soon as possible.
