MY 1999 XJ8L GAVE NO WARNING. WENT OUT TO START IT YESTERDAY AND IT JUST KEEP TURNING WITH NO ATTEMPT TO FIRE. ANY IDEAS/SOLUTIONS?

If you parked the car while it was cold (i.e., you moved the car a short distance and it didn't have a chance to warm up), you probably have the dreaded loss of compression due to no oil issue. The solution is to pull every spark plug, drop a teaspoon of oil into each hole, replace the spark plugs, and start the car. It WILL smoke a bit for the first few minutes.

If you parked the car while it was warm or hot, you need to do a compression test. Your car has nikasil cylinder linings, and the first sign of the nikasil going bad is difficulty starting.
