Transmission fault light / limp mode
Transmission problem
1998 Jaguar XJ8 V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic
I bought a 1998 XJ8L that is in "limp mode / 5th gear". The car has 170K miles and I was told by the sellers that there were no apparent problems prior to the fault light indication after a family outing to a nearby restaraunt. I note that this same question was asked before and I would also like to know:
"I get a transmission failure message and the car is in limp home mode. What is wrong and can it be repaired outside of the Jaguar shop?"
BTW, I have driven the car, starting slowly from the 5th gear configuration and the cars runs well otherwise (to include driving in reverse).
Thanks for the help.
