1998 Jaguar XJ8 timing

i had the primary timing chains and all tensioners replaced, after mechanic finished, the engine has a very bad miss at low idle.

You have a few possibilities. Either it is not timed correctly or you have bent valves. Depending on who installed the tensioners and his/her knowledge and access to the special tools required, this could easily get messed up. If the tensioner failed whilst you were driving, it could have damaged a valve.
