I have a 1993 XJ6 Soverign ( 168,000 miles ). My A/C works if I turn it on low, but only for a period of about 1 to 5 minutes. Then the fuse blows. The fuse that blows is for the AIRCON clutch. If I turn it on low and then increase to max the fuse blows immediately. I would like to know what could be the root cause of this problem. At the very least what are the usually suspects. I don't know if I should check the clutch, the wiring or some related piece of equipment. Thanks.

First check your transmission fluid level - has there been any abnormal shifting recently?

If not, thats probably good news, especially if the fluid is full. The linkage or cable from the shifter to the transmission may be broken or disconnected.

There is a good possibility that your A/C clutch has a short in it.
