My daughter's car passenger door will not stay locked. She tries to lock it with the remote, and it makes a long beep sound and then the passenger door lock pops up. She has tried to lock it manually by pushing it down and it pops back up. She also has tried to lock it with the key and it pops back up. Help!

Hello,

What happens is the latch switch shorted out and needs to be replaced. Here is what it looks like.

Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know what happens.

Cheers.

Same problem here. It is the back passenger side door whose lock will not stay down when I try to lock it, manually. I lost the remote. And I do not really know where that automatic door lock feature is located on the car? Want to be able to feel secure knowing it is locked.

You will need to remove the door panel to get to the door latch. Here is a guide and diagrams below on how to do the job on your car:

Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

What do I do after I get the door panel off?
Can it only be a shorted latch switch that is the problem? Or is there something else that could be wrong, as to why the manual lock will not stay down?
If that is the only thing it could be, I need a new latch switch then? Where to get that and how much is it?

And I am having a 'neighbor from heck' problem here. Is there any way to get a locking gas cap for this car? It is a little too easy for vandals to put stuff down into the fuel tank, as everything just opens right up on these cars!

Hello, I am Danny.

I have attached yo pictures for you. One is the latch and the other is what a locking gas cap looks like. There are available at all auto parts stores for about $20.00. When the key locks the cap it just spins in circles and can't be removed. Twist the key and it latches and is removable. The door latch will likely have to be purchased at your local Jaguar dealer. Hope this helps and thanks again for using 2CarPros.

I was going to have you remove the wiring from the lock actuator so it will become a manual door lock. It sounds like the alarm module has gone out. Here is a wiring diagram so you can see how the system works.

Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know what happens.

Cheers, Ken
