I JUST BOUGHT AN 89 JAGUAR. THE CAR WONT START MOST OF THE TIME. I JUST HAD THE FUEL FILTER REPLACED. WHEN IT DOES START, IT MIGHT RUN FOR ABOUT THREE MINUTES AND THAN STARTS IDELLING LOW AND CUTS OFF. I DON'T KNOW IF THIS HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT, BUT I'M MISSING MY GAS CAP(HAD TO ORDER IT FROM THE DEALER AND WONT BE IN TIL NEXT WEEK).

When the "no start" condition exists, you need to determine what you're missing. Spark, fuel pressure or injector pulse. It may be a bad fuel pump. The most common cause for your problem in the '88 and '89s is the crankshaft position sensor.
