1999 Jaguar Vanden Plas Transmission problem on XJ8 VDP

Car shifts beautifully both in regular and sports mode, but if I try to use the "manual" side of the J gate, I instantly get a "Transmission Fault" and Restricted Performance." Any ideas?

There is a switch in the console that tells the transmission control module that you have shifted out of automatic mode and into manual. Either this switch is not sending the message, or the module is not processing it. I would suggest you have the vehicle connected to a compatible scanner that can test your system. This will pinpoint which part is malfunctioning. You could guess which part is bad, but guessing on Jag's gets expensive.
