The rubber boots on the CV axles are torn on my 98 Trooper. The dealer quoted $1000 to replace the CV axles. I never use the 4WD option. There is no load on the CV axles as long as I avoid 4WD. Why should I replace the CV axles? My personal mechanic quoted $750. It looks like the job is very labor intensive.

Wheather you use 4X4 or not, those joint rotate with the wheels, if they shatter, you will possibly damage more parts. It's pay me now, or pay me latter!
