What would cause my rodeo to CLICK, CLICK, CLICK, ETC., and then finally catch to start?

When mine did the exact same thing I found that the starter moter geers had worn and were not engaging properly. Sometimes would start on first click but usually started on the 4th to 20th click. Replaced the starter moter which had a new gear and no problems since.

Is relacing the starter motor the same as replacing the whole starter? Or, is it something separate?
