1) I'm trying to replace the thermostat on my son's Rodeo, but the thermostat appears to be in top of the engine block underneath a lot of engine gunk. Wow! The last time I replaced on of these they were right on top of the radiator. Advice?

2) The gear shift is often locked in park after starting the engine, unlocked while the engine is turned off. I took the plastic console off this assembly and the solenoid pushes out when the key is turned to "on", and relaxed when turned "off". This swings a plastic piece to prevent him from shifting into drive. The only easy fix I could see was to change the brake switch. No different.

I cant find anything in my software that gives any instructions on replacing the t-stat in that truck. If it is that hard to get to, be sure it isnt located at the lower hose.
For the shift lock, check fuses 6, 15. If ok then go to shifter and using a meter, test continuity to ground at teh black wire on the lock out solenoid, white wire should be power with key on. Get back with results

Sorry, this didn't get us anywhere. Not on top or bottom of the radiator. Not visible on engine EXCEPT it appears to be under the air plenum right between the "V". This is a 1998 V6 3.2L engine.

We bought the generic repair manual at the auto parts store, but it too is no better.

Anyone have any thoughts?
