This is a 3.2 fuel injected V6 with electronic ignition. Engine ran nicely one second while accelerating, and instantly started running rough.

Speedometer occasionally falls to zero then returns to correct speed after awhile, sometimes immediately. 'Check Engine' light occasionally comes on momentarily. Engine seems to run smooth after reaching 'equilibrium' in any gear, but misses when trying to accelerate.

I've replaced the fuel filter and spark plugs and checked the fuses, but no improvement.

Check engine light on, pull the code/s from the computer this is your starting point finding out what's going on.

Could be one of the following below

Oxygen sensor
Dirty fuel injectors (cleaning the injectors often fixes this).
Bad MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor
Bad TPS (throttle position) sensor
Bad or dirty MAF (mass airflow) sensor
Low fuel pressure (leaky fuel pressure regulator or weak fuel pump)
Vacuum leaks (intake manifold, vacuum hoses, throttle body, EGR valve)
Bad gasoline (fuel contaminated with water or too much alcohol)

Sometimes, what feels like a hesitation is actually ignition misfire rather than lean misfire. The causes of ignition misfire may include:

Dirty or worn spark plugs
Bad plug wires
Weak ignition coil
Wet plug wires

I have picked up Heli Coils because I did not know the cylinders had previously been stripped. I need to know the best way to insert them.
