if it was a 6 cyl it is a 258 cid if it is a v8 it could be a 304 or a 345

Scouts were only built until 1980 so if you meant "1974" then I'll agree with what billymac posted. They also had some slant 196 4 cyl. engines still being built around that time. Actually very good engine for off-roading (somewhat light weight, excellent cooling, good mpg)
