Hi,

I have a 2001 Infiniti i30 (mileage is 81,000). The air conditioner is blowing warm air. I took the car to my trusty dealer, but he says the cost to replace the hose (lower hose) and replace the freon is $430. That sounds very expensive. Do you agree?

At upwards of 90 an hour, I would guess labor is a factor. Depending on how difficult it is to change. Diagnosis, changing the part, vacuuming system, recharging the a/c system. Fair amount of work involved

I am not sure what your state laws are but r134a the refrigerant used in newer vehicles is sold at wal-mart in wisconsin without a 609 certification. If I remember correctly there is only 1-3 lbs. Of refrigerant in most cars. They have easy to read instructions on how to charge the system with a hose that attaches to the service valve suppplied.

You can charge it yourself, but the important thing is to have it vacuumed down to remove any moisture or other contaminent from the system. It will work if this isnt done, but not as well
