Hi, I enquired about a locksmith coming to put a new ignition barrel in. Will he need to code my car to get it started? He said my original key can open and lock doors, but I will need a new barrel and key to start it. Will he need to put a code in it? Thank you

It will depend on what you have him do. If possible, a locksmith can take the new key cylinder and code it to match your existing key(s) that way there is no programming needed and your original key works in everything, the smith could cut you extra keys as well. However, those would need to be programmed into the car, which most locksmiths can do these days.
