When I start the car and when I stop at a stop light, I need to shut off the fan for the heat, air or fresh air because I start to smell gas fumes and then when I take off it the gas smell is horrible for about a block. I have taken it to 2 mechanics and the dealer with no luck. Recently, I also had difficulty getting the gas cap off, it was "vapor locked" I guess on. I had to get a rag out to get extra leverage.

Any ideas?

If you smell it in the car, chances are there is a problem under the hood. Have they cecked injectors, fuel lines...? Also, have they checked the charcoal canister to see if there is a leak there?

Has the check engine light come on?
