This happens intermittently, but most frequently just after it rains. The car has recently started to stall and sputter. Two things will happen, either I pump the accelerator and the engine will come back to life or the check engine light goes on at which point I have to restart the engine. When I restart the engine, I seem to have no more problems. This happens at random. It can be while I'm driving on the highway (which is one scary thing when you are on a 5 lane highway and your car just dies), on a city street, just as I first start the car or sometimes just at a stop light.

Hi choogheem,

Thank you for the donation.

Get a scan done to retrieve the trouble code and let me know EXACT code so I can understand the problem better.

I had the exact same problem with my 2003 Sonata, scary loss of power on the highway too... It was fixed by replacing the cam shaft sensor. Cost wasn't too bad at a bit over $100.

That is exactly what the problem was - a camshaft position sensor. Decided to also replace the timing belts.
