Answering my own question.Further investigating (with a multi-meter)showed BOTH stop light bulbs were open(filiments appeared to be ok).Replaced both bulbs.Stop lights function AND cruise control returned to normal operation.Apparently,the brake light curcuit is tied into the cruise.
