2001 Hyundai Santa Fe A/C System is inop.

My Girlfriend drives a 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe. I'm diagnosing the A/c system. I Charged the system to manufacture spec. at work. Turned on the A/c and the compressor will not engage. All fuses are good and there is power to the compressor. Does this sound like a shorted compressor or is there a switch like a low pressure switch or cycling switch that could be bad?

Hi Cobaltss2,

If power is present and the compressor fails to engage, you should check the clutch and coil.

Check coil for open circuit, if circuit is ok, check clutch clearance, if too far, it would not click.

With engine off, supply batttery voltage to compressor and tap clutch outer plate, if it engages, the clearance is too far.
