Help I have a 1991 hyundia scoupe recently I could not leave my car to idle and warm up or it would stall and I could not start it for about 1/2 hour. And when trying to restart it before that time it would backfire a few times before starting. If I drove the car to warm up in low gear to keep the reves up it would be fine for the rest of the day, no problems with shutting if off and restarting until it sat over night again. But now my car will not start at all. It seems like it wants to but when it engages to start its almost like its drains too much battery. It turns over but doesn not engage.

You need to see if there is spark at the plugs during the times when it will not start. The spark should be a good blue arc.

Got spark?

Now is there gas in the cylinders and is the car getting gas?

Pull out a plug and hold the firing tip against the engine block to ground it. Turn the engine over. You will need an assistant for this. You can use the same plug for each wire to see if they are all firing. Then smell inside the cylinder and see if there is a strong smell of gas.

Have you run an OBD2 scanner on the car for codes? I believe you have a sensor that is out and the code could point us in the right direction.

I was also told that sometimes the position sensor or cam shaft sensor doesn't always show up on the codes, not sure if this will help at all but my check engine light has never come on.
