I was told by the Dealer where I bought my car (new) That I'm about 2000 miles past due for Timing belt replacement.
Just how criticle is the replacement? The service Manager told me he's seen them fail between 65 and 70000 miles and litteraly trash the motor. I don't drive the car hard, all other routine maint. is done by me, I change the oil myself, using Mobile 1 full synthetic. I really don't the $600.00 to get it done right now.
Can you help?
Thanks

Timing belt replacement is critical on that engine. It is an interference engine means pistons hit and bend valves. So $600 now or $3600+ later. Does not matter how you drive or how often you change oil T belts break with mileage past 60K

If you can, and do have some good knowledge, you may can change it by yourself. I did. I had changed all belts, tensioners and water pump as well. All these under $200 on parts.
You may can do it in one day or two, But it is well worthed.
You need to have mm sockets, 2 leg pully remover, etc.
To replace all those parts, it may cost you over $1,000 at any dealer.
