1997 Hyundai Elantra 4 cyl Automatic 155000 miles

About a week and a half ago my husband's car began acting up. It wouldn't start. We replaced the starter and negative terminal (it was looking bad). It was all good for a couple days then again, not starting. The car is requiring a heavy-duty battery (one from a car that runs a lot of gadgets like my Altima or Dad's Impala) to jump it. Had the battery tested and it was holding at 12 volts. We charged the battery for 3+ hours yesterday and I still had to jump his car. No one (family & friend mechanics) seem to think its the alternator. Someone mentioned today that it may be the voltage regulator. Wanted to get your opinion. Personally, I'm ready to be rid of this car.

Hi, thanks for the donation. When it won't crank, did you try checking the voltage circuits at the starter relay. Tewrminal 1 is hot all the time, hot means voltage on the circuit, if you use a testlite, it should lite-up. Terminal 3 goes hot with the key in the crank position. If you think it might be a starter issue, some of the national brand autostores will test it for you, if you take it off and take it to them. Not sure how you tested battery? Any testing at the starter relay, make sure the tranny is in park or neutral and the e-brake is set.
