I seem to have heard a clicking noise of late. So I changed the oil and oil filter with no prevail. I look inside the hood and find the alternator is throwing a spark off towards the back and bottom. I was wondering if you would know what is causing this and how to fix it.

Are the sparks coming from the sides of the alt or from the positive cable going to the alt?

Okay I have no idea but it is shooting down towards the general direction of the oil filter i.E. Down and backwards. Sorry I am not very motor literate.

The only thing I can think of is either the power wire to the alt has worn through and is shorting out or something in the alt has done the same. Does it only happen when the engine is running? If so, disconnect the battery, remove the alt, and have it checked at a nationally recognized parts store. Most will do it for free. If it is a the wire shorting, be careful because it could cause a fire. Actually, either could do it.
