Hello, Just bought this car and notice that there was white exhaust smoke and some oil smell.(private seller) When I test drove it I didn't notice any of these problems. according to the records kept, regular service had been preformed and had passed IM & safety inspections. I have very little car knowleg and of course I'm worried that I may have bought more than I bargained for.
would like your suggestions of what could be wrong and how to talk to a local mechanic.

Hi Szahm,

If the smoke is completely white, check the coolant level. If you have any coolant losses, then it could be a bad heag gasket.

If the smoke is a tinge of grey, then it is oil being burned in the cylinders and could be due to worn/hardened valve seals.
