your question is a bit misleading, let me make sure I understand you, you only bought the Mirror replacement and not the whole unit (I'm talking about the whole frame and the mirror) is that correct?

Okay listen up, the "thin black backing" on your new mirror is a double-sided tape (I think, that's what it's like on most replacement mirrors) very carefully remove the thin backing and install it on your mirror mount, but before you do that make sure you have taken all the broken mirror off on the mount and cleaned it very well, like with carburetor spray on a rag or some alcohol then remove the thin "clear" backing and install, but if I am incorrect go to your local parts store and they will sell you some epoxy to install the mirror. Let me know what happens.
