I have a 97 prelude with 170k miles. About 2 thousend miles ago the engine developed a pecking noise around the value area. I took the car to a repair shop, they replaced the timing belt, removed the cams and checked the lifters to see if they were ok(collaped or not). The guy there said they were ok but it syill makes a small pecking sound but runs ok other wise. I thought I might have flat spot on the cam. Help. Thanks Roger Griffitts

Hi there,

What you may be hearing is the clicking of the fuel injectors. Get a long screw driver and place it on a fuel injector while the engine is running and place your ear on the end of the driver, you will hear the injectors opening and closing as a tick sound, if this is what you are hearing all is well, otherwise there may be an issue with valve clearance or a worn valve guide can also click like that if worn out. May be best to ask your mechanic to show you how to listen to the injectors just in case your not to sure about doing it.
