Engine Cooling problem
1992 Honda Prelude 4 cyl Manual

for some reason my car overheats, the fans work but they dont turn on when the temperature starts to get hot, what could be the problem? i have them straight wired to the battery right now so that the fan is on at all times until i get to my destination, then i have to open the hood and disconnect it to turn the fan off. i changed the thermostat and coolant, but the fans wont turn on when they car gets too hot, like its not reading the temp or something.

Hi slay0034,

At the thermostat housing there is a 2 wire switch. That is the fan switch. Unplug the connector and bridge it with a jumper wire. Turn ignition on and if fan comes on, the switch is bad and not activating the fan relays when the temperature increases.

If the fans does not come on with above process, then you need to check the fan control relays.

Make sure you looked at all the hoses for leaks. Change the thermostat to 170, after run the engine and run the heater and fan to full max and add anti freeze and open the bleeding screw until you see no bubble but smooth anti freeze coming out. Tight the bleeding screw. When anti freeze is full put back the radiator cap on tight. Run the heater on and fan switch to max for about 5 min then after 5 min turn off the heater and fan switch to off. Wait until the right fan turns on. When the right fan comes on than you are done. If for some reason your temp gets hot again replaced both fans Radiator Fan (Right fan) and the cool isn't Fan (Left fan) they could be very old and need to be replaced.
