I've had this problem for some time now. I can't afford to take it to a mechanic right now. I was hoping I could get an idea on where the noise be coming from. There is a rattling noise, like a loose panel, when I put the transmission in drive and I accelerate. I put it in neutral and in park and the noise goes away. I rev the engine and no noise. Once I put it in drive and start accelerating, the rattling comes back. Any idea what it might be?

Thanks

Hi syphonfilter77,

The possibilities are too many to be listed.

Where is the noise coming from? Engine, exhaust, etc.

How does the noise sound? continuous, intermittent?

Does reversing cause the noise?

Loose panel noise could be due to some parts too close to each other and not properly tightened or has broken off.

You need to isolate the source to get to the cause but if it is a loose panel, you have nothing to worry about if it is not hitting against anything to cause any damage.

A faulty catalytic converter could also cause rattling noise.
