1989 Honda Prelude Si (2.0 FI Engine)
140K miles
5 speed stick
2WD
Problem started with car running hot due to no radiator fan or condenser fan running. When AC on no fans would come on. Diagnosed to Fan Control Timer Unit. Replaced with new OEM part. Battery was not disconnected when pluging in the 8-pin connector (I stupid) and now when the ignition is in the run postion before cranking there are no pre-check lights at all coming on the dash. NO ECU code light blinking. Car engine turns over as normal but will not start. Car was just cranked and moved before replacing this part. With no pre-check dash lights (turn key to on and normal would be engine check light, oil, seatbelt ect. lights and in a few seconds the engine check light would go off or go to start and would go off) and no ECU code light, I am wondering if ECU has crashed. Check all fuses, both under hood relay fuse box and under dash fuse box - all ok. Removed clock fuse for 30 sec to reset ECU - no change. Disconnected both batter cables and left off for several hours. Reconnected - no change. Removed the new part and reset ECU - no change. Please Help. Thank YOU.

Given the lights on the dash etc problems as well as the issues with not starting but cranking, I might consider that the ignition switch has failed.

Bruce, thanks for your response. The ignition switch was replaced about a month ago. At that time the car would crank and run fine but as soon as the igniton key went from crank to run the car would cut off. If you crank the car and carefully kept the ignition key between start and full rest in run positon it woudl keep running. Drove the car 13 miles home one day from work holding the iginition in this position. tricky to do with a shift. When u get no lights when going in the run position, i.e., no engine check light, no oil light, etc. would this indicate a bad ECU? I have no led light blinking on the ECU. This happened 5 seconds after I plugged in the new Fan Control Unit Timer.

OK, skipping the lights on the dash for a second, is there spark to the plugs since the vehicle is not able to run?
