Drive Train Axles Bearings problem

the shop where I had my insurance safety inspection done tells me that the passenger side cv boot is "torn open", then suggested that I replace the cv joint and shaft. Upon doing some research, I see that as long as the cv joint doesn't pop or crack then it may JUST be the boot, which is a pretty cheap part (less than $20). More advice please?

Hi bettsygirl,

If the grease has not dried up from the torn CV joint boot, replacement of the boot normally would suffice. However you run the risk of the CV joint emitting some noise if the joint bearings have worn off.
