I just replaced the starter and I cannot get the engine to turn over. when I turn the key The electrical systems lights door buzzer and everything work and the battery is good. But when I crank the key to start the car The starter wont engage. I can troubleshoot the starter by touching the terminals and it turns over. Does anyone have ideas about what may be causing this cables or otherwise.

Hi 82lude,

It could be a faulty ignition switch, Park Neutral Position switch or starter relay.

Did you try shifting to neutral and starting?
Did you test for poer out of ignition switch and to starter solenoid?

Data for your model is not available in our database so I am not able to get the wiring schematic for you.

This is a common problem with 1982 Preludes. I own one and I have had to replace two ignition switches.

I have the 1982 HONDA PRELUDE shop manual (not a Chilton or other, but HONDA). If I can get a copy of the wiring diagram to you, let me know how and if I can do so.

I would like the shop manual wiring diagram if you can get it to me. I have the chilton manual but thats not much help. The lock tumbler and key switch work the warning lights come on and the door alarm sounds. I can hear a clicking coming from the engine compartment close to the windshield when I turn the key

Examining the manual, and troubleshooting procedures, i"m convinced that your ignition switch is bad. I can send you all the information, I just don't know how to get it to you. It's a few pages, I don't know if I can e-mail them to you, but I don't have your e-mail address.
