I own a 2004 Honda Pilot with 6cyl and it has 95000 miles. I am extremely satisfied with the vehicle.

Last time in the shop about 2 moths ago, I asked my mechanic to diagnose this problem but had no answers:

When I reach a slow cruising speed ( about 35 -45 mph ) my engine has shutter noises and I notice that the revs on the tachometer very breifly surge up and then go back down. I do not get these noises while accelerating, nor do I get them at highway speed above 55 mph. Sometimes it sound like a wind hitting the front of my car hard. I do not notice a hesitation in speed or any change in driving. My passengers hear this noise and comment on it. Most time it will lessen if I step off the even pressure on the gas pedal, but it returns when I resume the even cruise. I tried my cruise control the other day and the noise still came. Sometimes it sound like a banging nosie as well and I am concerned that my engine is being damaged.

Can you help at least point me in the right direction? It is driving me crazy.
