Transmission problem
1994 Honda Passport 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

I recently had the transmission fluid changed in my Passport. I never had any problem with it since buying it two years ago but knew if was time for a change. It has 180,000 miles on it. I took it to Jiffy Lube and they flushed the transmission but did not drop the pan and replace the filter. This was two weeks ago and ever since I am having problem with the transmission slipping when changing gears. I took it to a mechanic and he smelt the fluid (level was OK) he said it smelt burnt and that I probably needed a new transmission. Also that it would be a waste of money at this point to drop the pan and change the filter. Could this all have occurred since the fluid being changed? I don't pull a trailer but it sounded expensive to fix. Any suggestions?

Hi Gofishn,

I don't recommend flushing transmissions as I have seen many trans failing after the flushing. No definite logical explanation but it happens. Dropping the pan to replace the fluid and filter would be the best option, any abnormalities would be noticeable from debris found in oil pan.

Was the trans fluid used of the correct type? Incorrect fluid would cause slipping and performance related problems as well.
