Today I opened my passenger door and when I tried to close it I could not. There is a plastic piece that looks like it should hook over the metal hook on the door frame but the plastic piece is in the wrong position and won't move out of the way to latch onto the metal hook. I would like to fix this problem myself if possible. Do I have to take the door apart to do this? What caused this problem?

Hi mbaroudi,

The black plastic piece is the noise and impact damper. If it had gone out of position, the lock would not latch.

If it can be pushed back into position, it would last for a while but if it is worn, you might have to replace the latch unit. Then you need to remove the door panel to take the latch out, involves taking out quite a number of things.
