I was given this car as a gift. The catch was.....you fix it. Anyway the car seems to have one bad cylinder. The car's motor is vibrating excessively while in idile and turns off when putting it in drive. The previous owner told me that the mechanic had said that the first cylinder was only giving 60%. Is there anything else beside the distributer that might be causing this problem?

Why don't you give it a dry and wet engine compression check and comeback with the readings so we can interpret the cause of the problem and what direction to take.
