Engine Mechanical problem
1999 Honda CRV 4 cyl All Wheel Drive 208000 miles

MY CAR IS IN 3 CYLINDERS INSTED OF FOUR A FRIEND TOLD ME THAT THE PROBLEM ARE THE VALVES AND THE SCANNER SAID THE SAME BUT I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT IF I CHANGE THE VALVES THE PROBLEM IS GOING TO BE SOLVE NOW THE COMPRESSION IS IN 25 PSI DO YOU THINK THAT IS THE PROBLEM OR DO I HAVE TO CHANGE THE MOTOR COMPLETLY OR REBUILD IT ?

Hi there,

If you do a wet compression test, that is add some oil (not a lot just a few squirts from an oil can) to the cylinder then do a comp test this will seal up the rings temporally so if the readings are still very low, the valve will be the problem, if the comp rises considerably it will be rings, but be aware that doing the head up on an older engine may induce oil burning after a while as the rings may be some what worn as well.
