1995 Honda Civic, 1.5 L, 190,000 miles. I need my timing belt changed for the second time, and I'm thinking of having a neighbor do it. He's fairly experienced, owns all the tools, and claims to know what he's doing. What could go wrong and how serious could it be if he does it incorrectly? If the timing is wrong will it harm the engine when we go to start it up, or will it just not start?

By my info this is an interference engine:

Check for yourself. If this goes out of time it could cause expensive damage. How good is your friendship to an expensive damage situation. There is also the alternative of an independent repair shop also.

IF he has not done one on this engine before, I would not want to experiment with yours as the guinea pig.
